Budgeting for the Unexpected

On a recent trip my husband required emergency surgery for a detached retina. Due to the injection of gas into the globe we were unable to fly and found ourselves grounded for an additional two weeks. Our personal resources were able to meet the challenges of additional travel, food and housing expenses not covered by the insurance but I started to think about budget minded travelers, especially younger adventurers who may not have similar resources. So in addition to advising travelers to get medical and evacuation insurance I briefly discuss the need for a financial backup plan to access additional funds as needed to cover such delays.
